Then, through the farthest archway, the figure emerges: the Red Death itself, robed in shadow with hood drawn, face masked, silhouette outlined in jewel-toned crimson. An ornate clock hangs frozen at midnight, its chimes still ringing. "While the chimes of the clock yet rang" marks the moment when the masquerade ends and truth arrives wearing Death's own costume.
